Contixo F22 Drone Review

Contixo F22 Review 2023 – is the Contixo F22 quadcopter worth the money? Review of features, pricing, flight duration, battery, camera and more.

Tiny drones can be fun but their long list of limitations are readily apparent once you start using them. After a while, people who become passionate about these flyers eventually move up in size and features. The problem is that big drones are hard to transport. One solution is to find foldable quadcopters that turn into compact units when not in use. These are great for storage and travel. The Contixo F22 Drone uses this kind of design to provide the best of both worlds: a tiny traveler drone with advanced features for more satisfying flights. Let’s delve deeper into its merits.

Build

The F22 may be all plastic but it has a sturdy build that inspires confidence. The wings are easy to fold and unfold. You don’t have to remove any parts just to make it happen as even the blades can collapse in place when necessary. Note that this does not come with propeller guards so that might be an issue during crashes. It comes with its own carrying case so everything can be stored neatly and stay put when you are on the go. There are compartments for the drone, the controllers, the battery, and manual.

Camera

This comes with a full HD 1080p camera that won’t win any awards but is good enough for this class and price point. The footage can be streamed via Wi-Fi to a compatible phone using the dedicated app. Users can enjoy a first person view from their phone. This has a wide-angle lens which makes it suitable for sweeping landscape shots. Video transmission has a maximum distance of 750 feet. Anything longer and you risk hiccups in the connection. If you are flying in an area with obstacles like trees and buildings, then this range gets much shorter. The camera can be adjusted up to 90 degrees up and down.

Battery

The included battery is capable of maintaining the drone in the air for about 15 minutes. This is a reasonable flight time for this class although it is not stellar. Look elsewhere if you are concerned about extending your flights. Contixo has a model called the F24 Pro which is capable of providing up to 30 minutes of flying. Just remember that bigger batteries also mean heavier drones. They also need to be charged much longer. As for the F22, charging time is around 110 minutes. Bringing a spare is ideal given the long wait for a 7.4V 1200mAh battery to get fully charged, assuming there are facilities to do so.

Controls

The controller has a maximum reach of 1800 feet. If you venture beyond this, then you run the risk of losing control of the drone which may drift far away. The good news is that the F22 comes with an auto return function that makes the unit come back to the user when it senses that the signal has been lost. It will exhibit the same behavior when the battery falls below a certain threshold. The controls have a smartphone holder at the top and hand grips at the bottom. Indicator lights are front and center for easy monitoring. It is possible to control the drone directly using gestures to take a selfie and more.

Features

This is considered as an entry-level GPS drone. With the GPS module, it can do a lot more than cheaper models such as fly to waypoints, auto return to home, orbit the user, follow the pilot, and many more. Tap at the screen to places of interest and see the drone fly to each of them in succession before going back. It’s a great way to get footages or photos of interesting areas without manual navigation. For those doing sports like skiing or trail running, the Follow Me feature allows a person to film himself with ease across long paths. The free app makes many of these advanced features possible.

Price

Given all of the features provided by this model, one might think that it would cost several hundreds of dollars or even more but its price is actually a modest $140. You can even find it at a discount in some online stores. This is a good price for a drone with foldable arms, full HD camera, and GPS module. The wealth of features is a nice bonus that makes flying a lot more fun and secure. You don’t have to be worried about losing the unit due to signal loss or low battery. You can create excellent videos that look professional by following a pre-defined path or asking the drone to follow a subject.

What People are Saying

The Contixo F22 has generally positive reviews that laud its ease of use. It’s a great option for beginners as common problems are eliminated thanks to smart features. Those who have lost older drones will be happy with the auto return home function that ensures you never lose track of the unit. The movable camera provides passable videos that can be framed for perfect shots. Make sure you take off on solid ground as sand can get into the motors and damage them.

Comparison with Other Drones

For similar money, you might get the Cheerwing W1PRO that also has a 1080p main camera with a secondary 720p camera, Follow Me, gesture control, and auto return home. It even has brushless motors and two batteries in the package. However, it has fixed arms so it is not as portable. If you want to bump up the camera quality to 4K, then you can check out the Contixo F24 Pro Drone. You get 30 minutes of flight per charge and quiet brushless motors for a little over $200. Note that Contixo also has an F22 Plus model that comes with an extra battery. All else is equal.
