Eachine E61HW Drone Review

Eachine E61HW Drone Review 2023 – is the Eachine E61HW quadcopter worth the money? Review of features, pricing, flight duration, battery, camera and more.

The beginner drone segment is flooded with options for the curious onlookers. Many of these are in sub-$50 category so price should not be too much of an issue. In the past, this kind of money would have given you nothing more than a disposable toy. Nowadays, you can a decent package that is fun to fly despite the modest amount. The Eachine E61HW Drone is one such model. It is being marketed as being suitable for both kids and adults. This small quadcopter aims to exceed expectations and prove that small can be incredible.

The Build

The package comes with the quadcopter, the remote control, four propellers, one battery, four propeller guards, a USB charging cable, and a battery. As with most compact drones, this one can fit in the palm of your hands. Note that the arms cannot be folded on this one and you don’t really need to given the diminutive size. It is about as long as the width of the controller, minus the guards. If you consider the guards, then it is 11cm on all sides and 3cm thick. It weighs a dainty 31 grams. It’s hard to expect for anything but plastics for the chassis but it seems tough enough to withstand minor crashes.

Camera

It is equipped with its own camera, albeit it only has a 720p HD resolution and a 0.3MP sensor. It’s still a nice touch and the first-person viewing with real-time transmission is more than welcome. This mini drone can get aerial shots and footages while streaming what it sees to a compatible smartphone via Wi-Fi. Install the app to make this happen. It was nice for the designers to include LED lights above the camera to aid in nighttime viewing and tracking. This should help the unit pick up objects even in the dark. Users will also have an easier time identifying the head and following the drone’s flight path.

Battery

This has a 3.7 volt battery with 250 mAh capacity that uses lithium polymer technology. Charging it would require at least 45 minutes using the included USB cable. Users can expect to fly around 7 to 8 minutes per charge. That is a decent length of time considering the size of the battery. Unfortunately, only one drone battery can be found in the package. This means that you will have to turn back and recharge once your juice runs out every time. If you can, find a compatible battery that can serve as standby. Note that the controller needs 3 AAA batteries which you have to purchase separately.

Controls

The remote control has an ergonomic design that feels good in the hands even for extended usage scenarios. Aside from the two joysticks, there are 9 buttons for different functions. Make sure that you read the manual carefully to learn more about what each of these buttons can do. This will prevent a lot of early crashes and prolong the life of the drone. Unfortunately, this one does not have its own LCD screen to provide telemetry data. You may be able to see relevant information through the app itself such as the battery level. Use these to guide your flights.

Features

Don’t be fooled by its small size. It may not look much but the E61HW has a lot of tricks up its sleeve. For example, it has the altitude hold feature which allows it to stay in place about a meter off the ground for ease of control. It also has one-key return that is a life-saver in emergency situations. If you lose track of it or realize that the battery is low, just push a button and it will come back immediately. It has headless mode which allows users to control it without having to figure out the proper orientation.

If you want to impress your friends with your piloting skills, then check out the 3D flip which will make the drone do aerial acrobatics in an instant. Just push a button and choose a direction with the right lever to make it flip that way. The app allows users to draw flight paths on the screen using their fingertips. It’s a great way to make the drone do fancy moves or avoid obstacles. This app even has a gravity sensor that lets you take control using phone movements. Those who have VR glasses can use the app to go into virtual reality mode for first person viewing experience.

What People are Saying

The feedback on this drone has been divided. It seems that people either love it or hate it, though more have positive things to say about the model. Those from the first camp are happy about the ease of use and resilience to crashes. The one-key for take-off and landing are extremely helpful for beginners. They usually get better at flying once they figure out the shortcuts on the controls. Some have praised the camera for providing better than expected quality. Although there are reports of the battery lasting as much as 8 to 15 minutes, it would be best to get a spare battery in case it runs out of power. Carrying a portable charger is also an option.

Comparison with Other Drones

The Eachine E61HW Drone has lots of competition. This is a lucrative segment given all of the hype surrounding drones causing people to try them out for themselves. Some of the other models in this class are the LBLA 1 with a 6-axis gyro and altitude hold, the Toyerbee Drone with live video and two batteries, and the SIMREX X300C Mini Drone that also have a Wi-Fi HD FPV capability. They are all beginner quadcopters that cost less than $50.
