Snaptain SP600 Drone Review

Snaptain SP600 Drone Review 2019 – is the Snaptain SP600 quadcopter worth the money? Review of features, pricing, flight duration, battery, camera and more.

The entry-level drone market is extremely crowded. That’s good for consumers are people can get into this hobby with endless options to choose from. No matter what their budget or preferences might be, there is surely a unit that will fit their requirements. They don’t even have to spend more than $100 to get a decent unit with an HD camera, high-capacity batteries, first-person viewing, and fun flight features. They can have these all and more with the Snaptain SP600 drone. However, it is far from perfect with some quirks that owners have to deal with. Let’s get to know this model in greater detail so that you can decide whether to buy this or not.

Build

Since this is a beginner drone in the sub-$100 price range, it’s hard to expect much from the build quality. It is decent enough for this category with a fixed rather than foldable design. The landing gear below protects the camera while the four propellers are prone to bumps and bruises. It would be best to purchase this with the spare parts kit that includes propeller guards, extra propellers, and landing gear. There are lights under each of them to help with nighttime visibility. It’s a light drone which aids in softer landings. However, this makes it prone to drift due to the wind.

Camera

The camera is far from ideal with only 720 HD resolution, but that is to be expected given its positioning as a beginner’s drone for adults. You will get nothing but the basic image and video capture capabilities. You can build on the skills that you will develop if ever you upgrade into something better later on. The field of view is wider than most at 120 degrees which is perfect for outdoor shots. It can transmit the First Person View to a smartphone using the app in real time. The maximum range for the feed is 200ft but it would be a good idea to keep the distance shorter.

Battery

This is one of the SP600’s strengths. The package comes with not one but two batteries. Each has a capacity of 1600 mAh which is good enough to provide 15 minutes of flight time. Charge both before heading to the field for as long as 30 minutes of flying. Few other drones in this class can claim to provide this much longevity. The charge time can be up to 180 minutes so patience and preparation are necessary. While flying the drone, you can constantly monitor the battery level. An alarm will sound if this runs low so you can recall the unit as soon as possible.

Controller

Unless the controllers from more expensive options, this one does not have an LCD to provide telemetry data. You can only see vital figures from the app through your smartphone. There are three speed modes so you can use the slowest if you are a beginner and go up as you get more comfortable with the controls. Try to keep the drone as close as possible to ensure reliable signal transmission. Study the buttons to take advantage of shortcuts. It offers one-key take-off, landing, and return. This should get you started right away. VR glasses can be used with the phone app for an immersive flying experience.

Features

When you want to take a good shot of an object, it is necessary to hold your altitude and snap from there. This drone may be cheap but it allows easy altitude hold as standard feature. The problem is that this only works well indoors and fields with no wind. It can easily drift when the wind blows due to its lightness. Headless mode is also available to eliminate confusion with orientation. It can even follow voice commands, perform flip stunts, support Gravity Control, and do Trajectory Flight. Draw a path on the phone and watch the unit fly through it.

What People are Saying

If you are looking for a unit that is ready to flight out of the box with lots of features, then the Snaptain SP600 drone is a good option. It is easy to use once you have studied the controls and gotten familiar with the app. The range isn’t the best so avoid obstacles and far excursions. This will not take impressive videos but it is decent for the price. The wealth of flight features make this a drone to fly. Flips and flight paths work well. In ideal conditions, it can fly and hover with excellent reliability. Wind can make it hard to control.

Comparison with Other Drones

The Snaptain SP600 has plenty of competitors in its class. For example, the same brand has the SP650 which is almost identical except for the 1080p Full HD camera. If you want to take better videos, then this may be worth the additional $20. Another contender is the Zuhafa T4 which is a foldable 1080p drone. It can follow people for smooth tracking shots. The JJRC H68 720p drone is also worth a look. It comes with 3 batteries with a combined flight time of 60 minutes. The propeller guards come standard with the package. It has a 6-axis gyro for stable hovers.

Final Words

The Snaptain SP600 drone is far from perfect but you can’t really expect that at $80. With the money, you get a good enough drone for learning the ropes and taking videos around your area. It is meant to be an introduction to unmanned aerial vehicles. For many, it will be a nice toy to play with. The ease of control from take-off to flying to hovering to landing will make this a fun find for novices.
